Sweet Memories

For my birthday this year my sister ordered me a cake at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. It was so gorgeous. It tasted really good too, but was VERY sweet. It was an almost instant sugar rush. It was white cake with white chocolate mousse and buttercream frosting. It was awesome.

Disneyland - Then

A while ago my mom found this little booklet thing she got when she went to Disneyland back in 1969 when she went out to CA to visit her brother who was in the Air Force was stationed out there. It is really cool. It explains the tickets and coupon system, has a map of the park, etc. Since we are going to DL for the first time in a few days I wanted to do a THEN and NOW set of layouts. So this is the THEN layout.

Winnie the Pooh through the years

One of the photos that my mom had from her trip to Disneyland in 1969 was this fun picture of Pooh. I used it with one from our recent trip. I'm glad that they have changed Pooh through the years! He looks so much cuter now.

How far we've come

The inspiration for this one came from the song by Matchbox 20. LOL I wanted to do a layout showing how far it was from MI to CA for our Disneyland trip. I couldn't find any maps that weren't all pixelated. I did find some photos of the state outlines and used those to cut out the states from "paper." The fairy trail doesn't really point to either location since that would have gotten too complicated. The photos from MI to CA are: Our plane at the gate in Detroit, Flying over the Rockies, Flying over the Grand Canyon, and Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.

A wild ride

My sister and I were afraid of Mr. Toad's Wild ride at Walt Disney World and almost 2o years after the last time we rode it we decided to give it another chance. Mostly because we coudln't remember why we were scared of it. They still have it at Disneyland so we decided to brave our fears. It was actually a fun ride.

Under the Sea

My sister and I on King Triton's Carousel at Disney's California Adventure. Instead of horses the carousel is made up of different sea animals. My sister just had to ride an otter. I loved the bright colorful animals.

Our Disneyland Shirts

For our trip to Disneyland, my sister and I made several shirts. We had special ones for the first day since it was our first trip to Disneyland. For the next day we were having lunch with the Princesses so we had Princess theme shirts. Then had special shirts for my birthday.

We're on our way

Photos from when we left for Disneyland.

Journaling Says:
After months of planning and a sleepless night it was finally time to leave for California! I was quite nervous. This was going to be the longest flight and the furthest from home. Despite the nerves I was also excited. We got to the airport in good time and checked our bags. Security didn’t take too long and we quickly found our gate. We sat down in some seats near the window and waited not so patiently. The minutes seemed to drag by. Finally it was time for boarding! YAY! We found our seats and buckled in. It was going to be a full flight so we sat patiently as the other passengers boarded. I remember glancing at my watch and noticing it was just about time to leave and there were still quite a few seats open. Not long after this the pilot announced that we would wait for 8 people from the large group that was on our flight had a problem with security. After about 30 minutes they finally arrived. About 40 minutes past our scheduled departure time we were finally pushing away from the gate! Melinda and I sat back and tried to relax. There was a bit of turbulence when we were going over Lake Michigan, but it wasn’t too bad. The pilot announced that Chicago was on the left, but you couldn’t see anything through the clouds. Bummer. For this trip I had the window seat, which was really fun. Throughout the flight we tried to rest. We also worked on some crosswords and other puzzles. We conversed with each other by writing notes, which was fun. And of course we listened to some Disney music on the MP3 player. The best part was when we flew over the Rocky Mountains. They were beautiful! As was the Grand Canyon. A little while later the pilot announced we would begin landing. YAY! There were no problems with the landing. And it didn’t take long to get to the gate. When we arrived though it was already 88 degrees! Overall it was a good flight. By the end we were both a bit antsy and wanted off the plane, but we had survived! And we were on our way to Disneyland. What could be better than that?

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland.

Journaling says:
Melinda decided on the last day at Disneyland to ride Big Thunder. After the debacle at Walt Disney World in 2007 I wasn’t go to ride it. She went off by herself and I found a place to wait at a restaurant next to it. I was able to see when we loaded and watched her train to come back. Melinda thought it was fun, despite not having the perpetually burning house.
